Mumbai Indians became the final team to enter the IPL 2025 playoffs after a dominant win over Delhi Capitals. In the match held on Wednesday, Suryakumar Yadav’s powerful knock of 73* off 43 balls and Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent bowling helped MI defeat DC by 59 runs. The team posted a solid 180/5 and then bowled out DC for just 121 runs in 18.2 overs. Mitchell Santner also played a crucial role, picking up three wickets for just 11 runs.
Currently, MI are fourth on the points table with 16 points. Their skipper, Hardik Pandya, praised his bowlers, saying, “I can throw the ball whenever I want, they bring such control and perfection which makes my job very easy.” He also acknowledged the contribution of Naman Dhir, who scored 24 runs off just eight balls, stating, “We would’ve been very happy to get 160 but the way Naman and Surya finished it. Especially Naman, to come out and just hit on a difficult track was outstanding.”
Scenarios for Mumbai Indians to Top the Table
Although Mumbai Indians have confirmed a playoff berth, they still have a chance to finish at the top of the points table. For this to happen, MI must win their remaining match against Punjab Kings. Along with that, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru must all lose their upcoming games.
If this situation occurs, Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, will move to the top position. Their strong performance in the last game, especially from key players like Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mitchell Santner, shows that they have the capability to continue their winning momentum.
Delhi Capitals Knocked Out After Poor Display
Delhi Capitals were eliminated from the playoff race following their loss to Mumbai Indians. They failed to chase down the target of 181, ending their innings at 121 all out. Their stand-in captain, Faf du Plessis, admitted that their campaign had been inconsistent. “If you looked at the two teams before today’s fixture, it was a case of David and Goliath, I enjoy that because it gives guys the opportunity to really play together as a team,” he said.
He praised young player Rizvi for showing potential, but also admitted the team fell short. “With the bat, we needed a good start on a surface like that and we didn’t get going at all. Sums up pretty much our season, we’ve been cold in either batting or bowling in the last 6-7 games. To be in the top four in the IPL, you can’t afford to do that.”
