Since making his debut for England in T20Is, Dawid Malan has maintained unbelievable consistency. The elegant batsman already has 7 half-centuries in just 16 matches. During the T20I series against Australia, Malan became only the second batsmen to average over 50 in T20Is. No surprises that Indian skipper Virat Kohli was the other batsman who still astonishingly averages over 50 after 82 matches.

Recently, Malan was all praise for India’s run-machine when he got to know the record he shares with Kohli. Malan admitted that even though he averages 50 in T20Is, he’s nowhere near Virat Kohli. The southpaw also said that he has consistently performed for such a long time.

I Am Not Anywhere Near Kohli- Dawid Malan

“I don’t think I am anywhere near Virat Kohli and those guys even though the numbers suggest. Maybe if I played 50 games then I can be compared to some extent,” Malan was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, after his rare failure in the final T20I against Australia, Dawid Malan’s average dipped below 50. As a result, Virat is now once again the only batsman with an average of over the magical 50 run mark (50.8) in T20Is. However, Malan is still happy with his performances and the chances he’s getting to be a regular feature in the England side.

“The type of player I am, I quite like to know where I stand in the team set up, which is why I said when you get played in the series you know exactly what you are going to do,” Malan further added.

Moreover, Dawid Malan has received praises from all quarters for his brilliant run in T20 internationals. The southpaw currently bats at number 3 spot which usually belonged to Joe Root in the past.

Malan has been sensational record so far, scoring 682 runs, at an average of 48.71. The 33-year-old got to play regularly against Pakistan and Australia in absence of Jason Roy and Ben Stokes.

“I’m aware that guys like Jason and Stokes will come back at some point, and it’s my job to score as many runs as I can in the opportunities I have to put pressure on them and Morgan and the selectors when it comes down to it,” Malan concluded.
