Former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth revealed that he has a lot of admiration for Team India batter KL Rahul. However, he has advised the opener to take a break from the sport, amid his batting slump. KL Rahul has been struggling to get going in the last few games for India.

In his last ten test innings, the 30-year-old has managed to score 125 runs. He was sacked as the vice-captain by BCCI selectors ahead of the last two Tests against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. KL Rahul has been subjected to heavy criticism from fans and experts. Former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkant expressed that the opener should take a break.

Speaking to the TOI, he said,

“I have tremendous admiration for the class of Rahul, in fact, I call him Rolls Royce Rahul… but it is just not happening for him at the moment. If I was the chairman of selectors, I would have gone up to him and told him to take a break for a while.”

Krishnamachari Srikkanth further expressed that Shubman Gill should get a chance in the upcoming third Test against Australia. He said,

“But with all due respect to Rahul, it is time to play Shubman. You can’t keep a player waiting when he is in the form of his life.”

I think this is more mental, Rahul needs a break: Krishnamachari Srikkanth

Former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth opined that KL Rahul’s struggle is more mental than technical. He added that the Karnataka cricketer should rake a break, and has the potential to come back all guns blazing. Krishnamachari Srikkant said to the TOI,

“I cannot pinpoint a technical deficiency in his game at the moment. I think this is more mental and all Rahul needs to do is take a break and sort his mind out. There’s no reason why he can’t come back with all guns blazing.”

The third Test between India and Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy will take place from March 1 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The hosts are two up in the four-match test series.
