England’s bowling legend James Anderson admitted he felt a bit uncomfortable having his name alongside Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar on a trophy. The 42-year-old expressed deep respect for Tendulkar and shared that he still finds it surreal when people praise his own remarkable career with England.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was introduced ahead of the current Test series in England between the two sides. Going forward, all Test series between India and England will carry this name. Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket, Anderson opened up about his feelings on the honour.

“I feel completely out of place when I see myself alongside him with the trophy. As I said, I hold him in such high regard. It is strange that when people talk about what I have achieved in cricket, like when I hear about it as if someone’s talking about someone else if that makes sense like I don’t feel it is me who has achieved all this.”

“It sounds really strange, but that is how my head works. I just can’t quite believe the things that come with playing such a long time”.

Emotional Anderson Speaks On Having Trophy Named After Him

Just a day ahead of the England-India five-Test series, James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar attended the official unveiling of the newly named trophy in London. During the event, the retired fast bowler expressed that having a trophy named in his honour was a proud and memorable moment for both him and his family.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family to have this iconic series named after Sachin and myself. The rivalry between our two nations has always been something special, full of history, intensity and unforgettable moments,” Anderson had said.

England hold a 2-1 lead in the series after securing a 22-run victory in the third Test at Lord’s. The fourth Test is scheduled to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23 to 27, followed by the final match of the series at The Oval from July 31 to August 4.
