Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who captained India in the first Test against Australia, expressed that he would always cherish the memory of the historic win in Perth with his son, Angad.
While acknowledging that Angad is too young to fully understand the significance of the achievement, Bumrah mentioned that he would have many stories to share with his son when he grows up.
In addition to being in Perth for the first 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, Angad was also present at the Kensington Oval in Barbados when India clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final.
Speaking to the media after leading India to a 295-run victory over Australia in Perth, Bumrah became emotional, reflecting on how he would cherish this moment and, in the future, tell Angad about the memorable match when he is old enough to understand.
“This is a special win, first win as a captain, very happy with that. My son is also here, so I’ll cherish it with my son, and I’ll remember this for a while. So, it’s very special,” Bumrah admitted.
“He’s very young now, but when he grows up, I have a lot of stories to tell him – he was young and he was in Perth and, you know, we won a very important match.”
“He also came in the T20 World Cup. So, he doesn’t know all this now, but when he grows up, I can tell him that he was sitting in the stands when we won very important matches for India,” the proud 30-year-old added.

“Really pleased with how we made a comeback in the game”- Jasprit Bumrah
The Perth match marked Bumrah’s second time leading India in a Test. Under his captaincy, India lost to England by seven wickets in Birmingham in July 2022. The pacer expressed great satisfaction with India’s victory in Perth, particularly their resilience after being dismissed for a low score.
“Really proud. This was my second match as captain. I led in Birmingham too, where we were ahead in the first phase, but England played really well. So, there are always lessons to take from that,” said the stand-in skipper.
“I’m very pleased with how we bounced back into the game, and how the batting stepped up, along with the bowlers who responded well with a new lineup,” he added.
