I Think I Have Sealed The No. 4 Spot – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer came in as a fresh air after India’s ouster from the World Cup in England losing in the semifinals. He showed stability in the middle-order which the Men in Blues have been searching since long. And Iyer himself believes he has sealed the No. 4 spot in the limited-overs side.

The selectors tried many options in the middle-order to settle the combination. However, they had to go to the World Cup without an answer as they used Vijay Shankar and KL Rahul in the No. 4 position. But soon after the World Cup, the MSK Prasad-led committee was smart enough to draft in Shreyas Iyer for the West Indies tour.

I have sealed No. 4 spot: Shreyas Iyer

The batsman from Mumbai, who since then, has been making the right noises in domestic cricket grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He scored runs consistently to provide stability. And now, Shreyas Iyer feels he has done enough to seal the No. 4 spot.

“If you have been playing for India at that position for a year now that means you have sealed it. There should be no more questions asked about it,” Iyer said in an Instagram chat hosted by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.

The India international returned with flying colours against New Zealand, which otherwise have been a difficult tour for India. Shreyas Iyer scored 217 runs in the series — the most by an Indian No 4 in a three-match bilateral series.

“When the debate was going on about No 4, performing at No 4 and completely sealing the position was really satisfying,” he added.

Despite ending the middle-order conundrum, Shreyas Iyer categorically mentioned that he is open to batting in any positions. The cricketer from Mumbai is ready to do whatever it takes to serve the country and reach greater heights.
