Yuvraj Singh is one of the greatest middle-order batsmen and a fine all-rounder in the history of Indian cricket. He has won India several matches on big stages. Yuvraj was the pioneer of India’s World Cup T20 win in 2007 and ODI World Cup win in 2011.
However, every sportsperson goes through tough times in his career. Yuvraj Singh recently shared his struggles from T20 World Cup 2014. He said that T20 World Cup 2014 was one of the lowest times in his cricketing career.
The former cricketer believes that he didn’t get support from team management during that phase. He was low on confidence due to the atmosphere where he could get dropped at any time. During a recent interview with News18, Yuvraj said:
“During the T20 World Cup in 2014, I was very low on confidence. There was an atmosphere where I could get dropped. It’s not an excuse but I wasn’t getting enough support from the team. From the time of Gary, I was in Duncan’s era and things had completely changed in the team.”
“When the final came, I just couldn’t hit the ball. I tried to hit the off-spinner and I couldn’t hit it and it went for dots. I tried to get out, I didn’t get out….Everybody thought my career was over after that. I also thought my career was over. But that’s life. You have to accept that. If you accept glories, you must accept your defeats as well and you must move forward.” said Yuvraj Singh.
MS Dhoni had so much support from Virat and Ravi Shastri- Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh also said that support from the captain is always crucial for the confidence of a player. The left-handed batsman claimed that he didn’t get the same support during his tough phase that MS Dhoni got from Virat Kohli during the tough phase of Mahi.
“Look at MS Dhoni towards the end of his career. He had so much support from Virat and Ravi Shastri. They took him to the World Cup, he played till the end, and went on to play 350 games. I think support is very important but in Indian cricket everybody will not get support” Yuvraj Singh added.
