MS Dhoni’s cricketing appearances are now confined to the Indian Premier League (IPL), with speculation about his retirement surfacing before each season. Despite turning 43, he still believes he has a few years left in him. Dhoni has expressed his desire to play cricket with the same enthusiasm he had as a child, embracing the sport without pressure or expectations.

Dhoni mentioned: “I want to enjoy it, how I did as a child when I was in school. When I lived in a colony, 4 o’clock (in the afternoon) was sports time, so we’ll go and play cricket more often than not.

“But if the weather doesn’t permit, we used to play football. I want to play with the same kind of innocence… (but it is) easier said than done.”

Embracing the Innocence of Childhood Cricket

At a recent event in Mumbai for the launch of his app, Dhoni shared insights into his mindset since stepping away from international cricket in 2019. He revealed that his goal is to simply enjoy the remaining years of his cricketing career.

Reflecting on his younger days, he recalled how, during his school years, 4 PM was dedicated to sports in his colony. Cricket was the preferred game, but when weather conditions were unfavourable, they would switch to football. Dhoni aims to bring back that same innocence and joy to his cricket, although he acknowledges that it is easier said than done.

Chennai Super Kings Retains Dhoni

Ahead of the latest IPL auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained Dhoni, but this time as an uncapped Indian player. This was possible due to a rule that allows players who have not represented India in international cricket for five years to be classified as uncapped. This move ensures that Dhoni remains an integral part of CSK while continuing to enjoy the game in his own way.

MS Dhoni’s approach to cricket in his later years reflects his deep love for the game. By embracing the joy and innocence of his childhood, he aims to make the most of his remaining playing days. His retention by the Chennai Super Kings ensures that fans will continue to witness his leadership and skills on the field. Whether this is his final stint or not, Dhoni’s legacy as one of cricket’s most iconic figures remains intact, inspiring generations to play with passion and dedication.
