Star Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues cracked a funny remark during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 match on Sunday, November 9, at Allan Border Field in Brisbane. The 25-year-old, representing Brisbane Heat, joked that she wasn’t sure whether Australia would even let her enter the country after her match-winning knock against them in the 2025 World Cup semifinal.
Rodrigues produced a career-defining innings against defending champions Australia at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on October 30. While chasing a massive 339-run target, she remained unbeaten on 127 off 134 balls, steering India to the final with five wickets and nine balls to spare. Her knock not only eliminated Australia but also handed them their first World Cup defeat since 2017.
Speaking on the sidelines of the WBBL 2025 fixture, Jemimah Rodrigues said:
“I was not sure if Australia will allow me to cross the border after the semifinals. But honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and everyone is so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world.”

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India etched history by securing their maiden World Cup title with a victory over South Africa in the final. Although Jemimah Rodrigues couldn’t replicate her semifinal heroics and was dismissed for 24, India’s strong first-innings total of 298 proved more than sufficient, as the hosts triumphed by 52 runs.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai-born batter had a subdued start to her Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 campaign, falling to Melbourne Renegades’ Alice Capsey for just six runs off nine balls. Among Brisbane Heat’s lineup, only Nadine de Klerk (40), Chinelle Henry (29), and Georgia Redmayne (16) managed to reach double figures as the team posted 133 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, the Renegades were cruising at 66/3 after 7.3 overs when rain halted play. The match couldn’t resume, and the Renegades were awarded victory under the DLS method.
