India’s versatile batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, and Afghanistan’s standout leg-spinner, Rashid Khan, had a warm interaction on Instagram. Rashid, recovering from minor lower-back surgery, posted a video showcasing his net session and captioned it:
“I’ve missed you ❤.”
India is set to host Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series later this month. Unfortunately, Suryakumar Kumar won’t be playing due to an injury from the South Africa series. While Rashid, Afghanistan’s T20I captain, is in the squad, it’s uncertain if he’ll participate in any matches. Ibrahim Zadran will take on the role of stand-in captain for the visiting team.
The T20I series between India and Afghanistan is set to commence on Thursday, January 11, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The second and third T20Is are scheduled for the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on January 14 and M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on January 17, respectively.
Suryakumar Yadav is expected to have surgery for a sports hernia
Suryakumar Yadav sustained an ankle injury in India’s third T20I against South Africa in December. Additionally, the dynamic batter is grappling with a sports hernia, and there’s a likelihood that he will undergo surgery for it.
The BCCI’s medical team is presently overseeing his condition, and there is a possibility that he might be sent abroad for additional treatment. Providing an update on the top-ranked T20I batter, a source within the Indian board informed the Indian Express:
“In Yadav’s case he will take more time than expected. After his hernia operation, it might take up to eight-nine weeks for him to start training. Hopefully, he will be fit during the IPL.”
Suryakumar might stage his comeback in the forthcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai Indians (MI) have retained him for the upcoming season.
