Ian Bishop Heaps Praise On Jasprit Bumrah; Calls Him An Entire Package

The ace fast bowler from India Jasprit Bumrah has come up the ranks in no time. Bowling with an awkward action and mixing his variations and toe-length yorkers, he is a nightmare to the batsmen. Jasprit Bumrah has earned praise from all quarters and former West Indies legend Ian Bishop in another addition to the long queue.

Since impressing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bumrah’s stocks have only gone higher. The selectors soon draft him in the limited-overs squad and was an immediate success. He broke through all the rankings to achieve the pinnacle spot before leaving an impression in the red-ball format during his debut against South Africa in 2018.

Jasprit Bumrah is a one-generation talent: Ian Bishop

Despite his barrage of success in the IPL, Jasprit Bumrah didn’t impress the giant West Indian in the first instance. But speaking to Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz, Ian Bishop admits that Jasprit Bumrah continues to amaze him despite not being a traditional fast bowler.

“I grew up on the history of the game and coming through, I had this whole concept of a fast bowler as someone with a long flowing run; someone like Wes Hall, Sir Richard Hadlee, Dennis Lillee, the Marshalls, the Holdings, so on and so forth. And Jasprit is exactly the opposite: it is stuttering, short-run,” he said.

“Until today, I’m amazed as to where the pace comes from. And he has got a serious skill set. The way he swung the ball in the Caribbean, for example, and the way he can up his pace and still apply control to it. And then when I hear him speak about the game and break the game down, there I see a generational talent. Once he can stay fit, he is an entire package,” Bishop added.

Led by Jasprit Bumrah, India currently have one of the fearsome pace attacks in the world. The pack includes the likes of Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav who have done exceedingly well across the formats in recent years. India will hope that their pace attack continues to deliver the goods and lead their side from the front.
