ICC Approve Sandeep Lamichhane’s Inclusion In Nepal’s T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

Sandeep Lamichhane, a star cricketer from Nepal, has received approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to join Nepal’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This decision marks a significant turn in Lamichhane’s career, which was previously in jeopardy due to serious legal issues.

In September 2022, Lamichhane was arrested and charged with raping an 18-year-old girl, a case that brought his cricketing career to a halt. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, a verdict that deeply affected his status as a beloved sports figure in Nepal.

However, recent developments have changed his situation. The Patan High Court recently overturned his conviction, clearing him of all charges and removing the financial penalties associated with the case. This ruling allowed the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to lift his suspension, making it possible for him to play for Nepal again.

With this new development, the ICC acted quickly to grant Nepal permission to add Lamichhane to their T20 World Cup squad. Lamichhane, known for being the fastest bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets, now has a chance to rejoin his national team and showcase his talent on the international stage.

The Cricket Association of Nepal has already announced their preliminary 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, and the process of officially adding Lamichhane to the team is in progress. Nepal will compete in Group D, facing teams like South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
