ICC bans Pakistan star leggie Yasir Shah for 3 months

ICC bans Pakistan star leggie Yasir Shah for 3 months: One of the emerging spinners in the world, Yasir Shah faces ban for three months from ICC due to doping offence. He was found guilty of breaching the ICC”s Anti-Doping Code that relates to the presence of a banned substance in a player”s sample.

The star leg-spinner from Pakistan tested positive for a prohibited substance in December 2015. Hence Yasir’s ban will end on March 27 and will be available to play thereafter. This must be the biggest setback for Pakistan going into the upcoming ICC event, the World T20. In this ban phase, Yasir will miss three tournaments- PSL, Asia Cup and the World T20. He will be available at the earliest for the England tour this June.

Shahryar Khan: “We are confident that he didn’t do it intentionally. He is a very naive guy and took that medicine out of ignorance.”

“Shah has been suspended from all cricket-related activities for three months after pleading guilty to breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code,” said the ICC in a release.

PCB chairman Shahryar Khan said: “We are confident that he didn’t do it intentionally. He is a very naive guy and took that medicine out of ignorance.”

“Yasir’s family has high blood pressure problem and his uncles have suffered strokes and heart attacks due to it. He gets similar fears so whenever he suffers from high blood pressure he takes some tablets. Yasir’s wife coincidentally is also a blood pressure patient and he mistakenly used her tablet without knowing that it contained a banned substance,” he added.

“The initial details we received regarding the medicine he had taken were incomplete. Now we have received the full details and our doctors have decided against asking for a sample B test.  We are instead preparing to file an appeal on behalf of Yasir and expecting a lenient punishment as he used the medicine without any wrong intention,” Shahryar said, according to cricket.com.au.
