The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made arrangements for a meeting on November 29 intended to finalize the itinerary for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
According to the PTI report, during this meeting, the present impass between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) concerning venues for the tournament is expected to be resolved. The 50-over tournament is supposed to kick off in February next year, while the final schedule is yet to be announced due to the disagreement.
It must be noted that the tussle between the BCCI and PCB has postponed much of the proceedings regarding plans for the Champions Trophy 2025, as while the BCCI claims the rights to host this tournament in India, the PCB is insisting on a neutral venue.
The meeting held by the ICC on November 29 might no longer recognize that issue and plan the final schedule for the tournament. Cricket enjoys the attention of the whole world when its schedule is announced.
2025 Champions Trophy:
The ICC will be convening an important meeting on November 29 to finalize the ongoing issue of India’s participation in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025. The BCCI has raised security concerns and requested that India’s matches be hosted at a neutral venue, such as the UAE. This is following India’s last visit to Pakistan back in 2008 to play the Asia Cup, as all tours have been suspended due to the Mumbai attack.
The PCB has poured a lot into renovations within the frames of the international cricket venues in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi; thus, this is the first international cricket tournament to be hosted in Pakistan since 1996.
Tensions are highly ignited, and, in retaliation, the PCB has been saying the upcoming ICC events in India would be boycotted should that happen with the Indian team in the context of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
The ICC is formulating other contingency plans, including a hybrid model, to save the tournament. The last edition of the Champions Trophy saw action in England in 2017, where Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs to be crowned champions.
