ICC Bowlers Rankings: R Ashwin Becomes Number 1 Ranked Test Bowler

India’s ace off-spinner R Ashwin reclaimed his number 1 spot in the Test bowlers rankings going past Jasprit Bumrah. Ashwin showed his skills by grabbing 9 wickets in the 5th and final Test match played at Dharmshala as India won the match by an innings and 64 runs.

R Ashwin showed his bowling skills picking up 4 wickets including Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, Ben Foakes, and then James Anderson. He continued his superb form with his 36th 5-wicket haul in his 100th Test match. During his brilliance, Ashwin took wickets of the top 3 batters including Duckett, Pope, and Crawley. He then produced a beauty to dismiss England captain Ben Stokes. After the lunch break, Ashwin took the wicket of Foakes to finish with 5 wickets.

Josh Hazlewood climbs up to number 2nd spot in the bowlers’ rankings. He bowled with great control in the 2nd Test match against New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch including 5 5-wicket haul during the first innings.

Jasprit Bumrah slips down one place to number 3rd. He could not pick any wickets in the first innings as the spin trio of Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja took all 10. Bumrah took 2 wickets in the second innings. Kagiso Rabada slips one place down to number 4th. He has not played any Test matches so far since the series against India at home.

Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Ravindra Jadeja, Prabath Jayasuriya, and James Anderson remain static at their spots. Pakistan’s ace pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi comes to number 10th in test bowlers’ rankings.

Daryl Mitchell performed well in the 2 innings of 2nd Test against Australia.

Steve Smith was disappointed with his performances and slipped down 2 places up to number 5th. Rohit Sharma showed class with a well-made century in the first innings of the fifth test at Dharmshala which saw him climb 5 places up to number 6th.

Dimuth Karaunate remains at number 7th. He could move ahead with 2 two-match test series against Bangladesh. Yashavi Jaiswal climbs two places up to number 8th in the batting rankings. He scored a quickfire 56 in the first innings of the 5th test at Dharmshala. Virat Kohli and Harry Brook slip down one place up to 9th and 10th place respectively.
