Australian spinner Adam Zampa roared back to form against Sri Lanka in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday, October 16 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. He showcased his brilliant bowling skills in the match, powering Australia to their maiden win in the ongoing tournament.

Adam Zampa dismissed the in-form batter Kusal Mendis cheaply. He also dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama, Chamika Karunaratne and Maheesh Theekshana, and finished the match with four wickets, conceding 47 runs in eight overs. Australia chased down 210 runs comfortably and won the match by five wickets. Zampa’s return to form is a massive boost to the Pat Cummins-led team.

Let’s take a look at three reasons why Adam Zampa’s return to form can inspire Australia’s turnaround in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

3 Reasons Why Adam Zampa’s Return To Form Can Inspire Australia’s Turnaround

#Indian conditions assist spinners

Indian conditions are known to favour spin bowling. They tend to be slower, drier and conducive to turn, especially as the tournament progresses they will assist spinners more. Adam Zampa will be important for Australia in such conditions which will suit his bowling style. He has the ability to outfox the batters, and contain the run-flow in the innings. He will be quite effective and can also prove to be a match-winner for them in spin-friendly conditions.

#Experience of playing in Indian conditions

Adam Zampa has a wealth of experience of playing in Indian conditions. He has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as International matches for Australia in India. In 19 ODI matches in India, Zampa has taken 32 wickets at an average of 31.28, including two four-wicket hauls. His familiarity with the Indian conditions can be a significant asset for Australia in the World Cup.

#Only lead spinner in the Australian team

Adam Zampa is the only lead spinner in the Australia team’s squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The other spin bowling option in the team is Glenn Maxwell. Being the only lead spinner makes Adam Zampa’s role even more crucial. He is also the leading wicket-taker for them in the format currently this year. In 12 matches he has taken 20 wickets at an average of 32.75, including three four-wicket hauls.
