ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: 3 Significant Milestones Mitchell Marsh Achieved During His Outstanding Innings Of 177* Against Bangladesh

Mitchell Marsh continued the aggressive batting display initiated by Glenn Maxwell against Bangladesh at Gahunje in front of a crowd of 19,000 on Saturday, showcasing precise and powerful hitting.

Australia concluded their group stage in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 with a dominant victory against Bangladesh. Led by Pat Cummins, the team secured an impressive eight-wicket win at Pune’s MCA Stadium on Saturday.

Bangladesh, batting first, posted a competitive first-innings score of 306/8. Towhid Hridoy led with 74 runs, supported by contributions from Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, and Mahmudullah, all scoring in the 30s.

Australia,  never chased a 300+ total in a World Cup, made a mockery of the target when they surpassed the total in 44.4 overs. In their ODI World Cup history, Bangladesh has conceded a total of 18 centuries, with seven scores exceeding 150.

Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 177* now stands as the highest individual score against Bangladesh in ODI World Cups, surpassing the legendary Virender Sehwag’s 175 in the 2011 World Cup opener in Mirpur.

Overall, Marsh’s innings ranks as the fourth-highest score against Bangladesh in all ODIs, trailing Ishan Kishan’s 210 (2022), Charles Coventry’s 194* (2009), and Shane Watson’s 185* (2011).

#3 Second best individual score in a World Cup ODI game while chasing

Glenn Maxwell hit an undefeated 201 when chasing 292 in Australia’s last match against Afghanistan. It was an innings of a lifetime.

Mitchell Marsh now has the second-best score on the record, however Maxwell’s innings, when he batted second in World Cups, became the greatest individual score.

Marsh’s 177 is currently the second-highest score achieved by any batter in an ODI World Cup game while chasing.

#2 The highest score in an ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh

Bangladesh has conceded a total of 18 centuries in their ODI World Cup history, including seven scores surpassing 150.

Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 177* now stands as the highest individual score against Bangladesh in ODI World Cups, surpassing Virender Sehwag’s 175 in the 2011 World Cup.

Overall, Marsh’s innings ranks as the fourth-highest score against Bangladesh in all ODIs, following Ishan Kishan’s 210 (2022), Charles Coventry’s 194* (2009), and Shane Watson’s 185* (2011).

#1 The ODI World Cup’s third-highest individual score achieved by an Australian player

Marsh, exhibiting sheer dominance against the bowling attack, has secured the third-highest individual score for Australia in ODI World Cups. His unbeaten 177* trails only Glenn Maxwell’s 201* and David Warner’s 178, both achieved against Afghanistan.

Had Australia needed a few more runs, Marsh would have claimed the second spot on the list, falling just one run short of Warner’s 178 in 2015.
