ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Babar Azam Is Expected To Resign As The Captain Of The Pakistan Cricket Team After The World Cup – Reports

In the pre-match press conference before Pakistan’s final group stage game against England, Babar Azam was questioned about the timing of his decision regarding the captaincy.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam is likely to resign from white-ball captaincy after the World Cup, considering the team’s precarious position in the semifinal race.

A high-margin victory is crucial for their chances. Babar is consulting with former cricketer Ramiz Raja and close associates for guidance on his future.

According to Geo News, Babar Azam’s choice to remain captain hinges on the guidance he receives, and some close advisors have suggested he resign from captaincy across all three formats.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam is likely to step down as captain after the World Cup

Babar Azam was questioned about the timing of his captaincy decision in the pre-match press conference before Pakistan’s final group-stage match against England.

He replied, “About the captaincy–as I said, once we go back to Pakistan or after this match, we will see what happens. But right now, I am not focusing on this; my focus is on the next match.”

He rejected the idea that being the captain has affected his performance in the World Cup, even though he has faced difficulties in scoring runs.

“I have been captaining my team for the last three years, and I have never felt this way. It’s just because I have not performed the way I should have in the World Cup, that’s why people are saying that I am under pressure.”

”I am under no pressure. I have been doing this for the last 2.5 or 3 years. AS I was the one who was performing, and I was the one who was the captain. I was applying the same thing,” Babar added.
