Bangladesh

Bangladesh

Bangladesh became the final team to announce a 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to be played from 5th October onwards. The left-handed star batter Tamim Iqbal has been dropped due to an injury.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin explained the exclusion saying, “We are all aware that Tamim Iqbal is a long-term injury concern. He returned for the New Zealand series. After the first match, there was a bit of a complaint. We thought of his injury concern when not taking him in the squad. We have spoken to all concerned, before taking this decision. We discussed it with Tamim. We can’t tell you what we spoke about. We discussed it with the team management and didn’t want to take a risk in a long World Cup campaign. It is a very important event.”

The Bangla Tigers progressed into the Super 4 stage with an impressive 89-run win over Afghanistan after 5 5-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in their first Group match. Bangladesh lost both their Super 4 matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka to be knocked out of the tournament. They produced a lovely performance defeating the Indian side who rested 5 key players in the match.

They will be led by experienced Shakib AL Hasan. Liton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hasan Shanto, Shakib AL Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tohwid Hridoy, and Mahmudullah consist of batters. The pace bowling department comprises Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan, Musfiztur Rahman, and Hasan Mahmud.
