Fans react as India thrash Sri Lanka to qualify for semi-finals of WC 2023

Team India continued their winning run as they thrashed Sri Lanka by 302 runs at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 2nd November 2023. It was a sensational bowling effort by the likes of Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj picked up 9 wickets between them.

Jasprit Bumrah got India off to a perfect start dismissing Pathum Nissanka on the first ball. He bowled with great control not allowing the Lankan batters to score runs easily. Siraj was at his lethal best getting rid of Dimuth Karaunate with a lovely delivery. He then dismissed Sadeera Samawickrama in the same over to leave Sri Lanka in deep trouble at 2 for 3.

Siraj then got rid of Kusal Mendis to put Sri Lanka under immense pressure. Mohammed Shami was introduced into the attack dismissing Charith Asalanaka providing an easy catch to Ravindra Jadeja. Shami then dismissed Hemantha with a simple catch to KL Rahul. He then got rid of Chameera to leave Sri Lanka in tatters.

Shami then produced a peach to dismiss Mathews. He got rid of Kasun Rajitha to pick his 2nd five-wicket haul in succession. Ravindra Jadeja got the final wicket to bowl out Sri Lanka for just 55 runs in 19.4 overs. Shami was the pick of bowlers with 5 for 18, Siraj 3 for 16 while Bumrah and Jadeja grabbed 1 wicket each.

Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to field first. Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply by Dilshan Madhushanka in 1st over. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were given reprieve as both were dropped. Both batters looked in sublime touch keeping the momentum going for India taking singles and boundaries at will.

Shubman Gill fell 8 short of his hundred by Madushanka. Gill and Kohli added 189 runs for the 2nd wicket laying a strong foundation for a big total. Shreyas Iyer looked in good touch putting pressure on Lankan bowlers along with KL Rahul. Both Rahul and Shreyas added 60 runs for the 4th wicket. Shreyas Iyer hammered the Lankan attack with big shots along with Ravindra Jadeja. Iyer was dismissed trying to hit a big shot. Iyer and Jadeja added 57 runs for the 6th wicket. Ravindra Jadeja added valuable runs as India posted 357 for 8 in 50 overs.

With this win, India made it into the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023. They will now play South Africa in their 8th league match on 5th November at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
