ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: “I See India Qualifying For The Semis” – Former India Player’s Take On India’s Chances In The Mega Event

Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar expressed confidence that the Indian team has the potential to win the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, which will be hosted in their home country. With the tournament just a month away, India unveiled its 15-player squad on September 5.

Despite a few players returning from injuries and dealing with form issues, the team appears to have a strong and balanced lineup, particularly suited for home conditions. India has often been considered a top contender in ICC events, although they have fallen short during the knockout stages in the past.

During his discussion on ESPN Cricinfo, Manjrekar emphasized that given the presence of formidable teams in the World Cup, India’s success will ultimately depend on their performance in the knockout rounds.

“I see India qualifying for the semis but it’s the challenges post the semis that India will have to contend with. There are some good sides around so it’s not going to be easy but it’s a good enough side to win the World Cup and it’s all about the big night,” he said.

“Case of them making sure they have their key players fit” – Tom Moody

In the 2019 edition, India finished at the top of the points table but experienced a devastating loss to New Zealand in the semifinals.

Commentator Tom Moody expressed his view that India’s performance in the major event might hinge on Jasprit Bumrah’s physical condition and his current level of performance.

“They definitely have a squad that can win the World Cup. Home advantage is a big one for India. A lot is going to depend on the fitness and longevity of Bumrah. He holds such an important key for India because of his high quality impact early and also to close the innings,” he said.

Bumrah made a comeback from his one-year-old back injury during the T20I series against Ireland. He quickly showcased his top form by taking four wickets in two games and earning the Player of the Series award.

His role in India’s prospects in the upcoming major event is crucial, especially considering his outstanding performance in the 2019 tournament, where he secured 18 wickets in just nine matches with an impressive average of 20.61.
