ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: India vs Australia World Cup Final Garner Record Viewership On Disney+ Hotstar

Australia became the Champions of the World Cup 2023 with a six-wicket win over hosts India in the finals played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 19th November. The anticipation was high as Men in Blue looked in great shape winning 9 league matches and semi-finals against nemesis New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 15th November 2023.

The crowd at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad saw 1 Lakh 30 thousand came to witness the finals between India and Australia while millions of them enjoyed on the TV screens and mobile phones.

Disney+Hotstar platform created a new viewership record during the World Cup finals with 5.8 Crore live viewers. The previous record was set during the India versus New Zealand semi-finals. Disney+Hotstar provided free streaming of live matches of 2023 World Cup matches starting from 5th October till 19th November.

Team India could not replicate their form in the final

The Indian team winning the trophy at home ended with a six-wicket loss to Australia in the finals of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on 19th November 2023. It was disappointing performance by Team India as they were asked to bat first by Pat Cummins on a slowish track.

Rohit Sharma got off to a perfect start putting pressure on the Aussies bowler. He was dismissed with a superb catch by Travis Head. Rohit Sharma contributed 47 while Virat Kohli 54, and KL Rahul 66 were the main contributors as the rest of the Indian batters failed. The Indian team could only score 240 in 50 overs. It was a disciplined bowling performance by Australian bowlers as Mitchell Starc grabbed 3 wickets, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins grabbed 2 wickets each, while Maxwell and Zampa took 1 wicket each.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami reduced Australia to 47 for 3 giving India some chances of winning the Cup. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship putting on 192 runs for the 4th wicket. Head scored quickfire 137 off 120 balls that helped Australia register a comfortable 6-wicket victory with 42 balls to spare.

The Indian team produced some sensational performance winning 10 matches in a row including the semi-finals but could not step up during the finals.
