Kane Williamson will make a comeback into the playing XI in tomorrow’s World Cup match against Bangladesh to be played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. He did not feature in the first two matches of this year’s edition against England and Netherlands.
Tom Latham led the side in the first two matches against England and Netherlands. He will now do the job of vice-captaincy and wicketkeeping job. It is a massive boost for New Zealand as they would look to continue their winning form as they trashed England by 9 wickets while registering a thumping 99-run victory over the Netherlands in the previous match.
New Zealand would look to go top of the points table with another brilliant display against Bangladesh. He suffered an ACL injury during the first IPL match against Chennai Super Kings of the 2023 edition and hobbled off the field. Kane Willamson was bought for Rs 2 Crore by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 and got injured while fielding. His participation in World Cup 2023 was not sure.
“Yeah, definitely. Initially, it [my comeback] was not really considered. And to be honest, it was probably a good thing just to get my head stuck into rehab each day and not sort of rush it. That was really my focus, and I was fortunate as well I had a really, good team around me back home,” Williamson was saying as quoted by ESPNcricinfo on Thursday.
“There were lots of quite clear steps along the way that you were trying to tick off, different milestones in terms of returning to the next phases and those sorts of things. So quite different, a lot of data around it, mainly from other sports that was relied on,” he said further.
New Zealand looks for another brilliant performance against Bangladesh
New Zealand will look for another superb performance against Bangladesh in their 3rd match of the tournament to be played at Chennai. Under the captaincy of Tom Latham, Kiwi registered a commanding 9-wicket win over England at Ahmedabad and then thrashed Netherlands by 99 runs to make it 2 out of 2.
Kane Willamson and Co would look to continue their form as they have never lost to Bangladesh in World Cup history.
