Team India wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain for the remainder of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 after Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the tournament on Saturday, November 4. The all-rounder suffered an ankle injury against Bangladesh and missed the following three games. He will no longer take part in the ongoing edition of the World Cup.

According to a report by The Indian Express, in Hardik Pandya’s absence, KL Rahul will be Rohit Sharma’s deputy. There is no official word from the Board of Control for Cricket in India yet. However, Ajit Agarkar informed KL Rahul about his role in the tournament. A BCCI official confirmed it to the Indian Express.

“The BCCI has appointed KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the remainder of the World Cup. He was informed about it on Saturday morning by the chairman of the selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, who is travelling with the team,” the official was quoted as saying.
