As the cost of tickets for Sunday’s India vs. South Africa World Cup Match keeps going up, the Kolkata Police is working harder to stop people from selling tickets on the black market.
After sending summons to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and BookMyShow (BMS) two days earlier, the Detective Department questioned several suspects for approximately eight hours at Maidan Police Station on Friday.
Even though the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and its president, Snehasish Ganguly, said they weren’t involved, Kolkata Police spent a long time questioning two BookMyShow (BMS) officials and some unknown people.
The representatives from the ticket-booking portal came at 2 pm, and DCP South Priyabrata Roy left after about an hour. But things got really interesting when the Kolkata Police’s Detective Department arrived at 4:45 pm with a videography team.
Roy returned at 7:20 pm, this time with 5-6 individuals whose roles were uncertain. The media outside wasn’t allowed to film these new people.
DCP South left around 8:30 pm, but the detectives from the Detective Department didn’t show any signs of leaving, increasing the speculation about a possible arrest.
According to Sportskeeda, the suspects were asked to provide statements to assist the police in connecting the pieces of the puzzle.
However, no one was taken into custody, and both sides concluded the process slightly after 10 pm. The exact count of individuals and tickets under investigation is still uncertain.
A person linked to ‘CAB’ got arrested for selling tickets on the black market
A man supposedly connected with CAB has been arrested by Entally Police Station for selling tickets on the black market. However, President Snehasish Ganguly has denied any association with this person in connection with the state association.
At a time when many people in the city are struggling to get tickets, some are selling tickets for very high prices. Some CAB members are upset and have argued with Eden Gardens security.
Some Congress supporters also protested because they couldn’t get tickets. There are still 85 high-end seats available, and they might be sold soon.
