ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Pakistan Team Gives Farewell To Hyderabad With A Heartwarming Gesture

Pakistan and Sri Lanka engaged in the most thrilling match of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup on Tuesday, October 10, in Hyderabad. Pakistan’s team, led by Babar Azam, arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on September 27.

Following their arrival, the “Men in Green” participated in two warm-up games against New Zealand and Australia at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium before competing in the 2023 World Cup matches against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s time in Hyderabad concluded after a successful chase of 345 runs against Sri Lanka, with six wickets in hand. Before leaving the field, the former world champions took photos with the stadium’s ground staff.

The pitches at this venue have been favorable for batting, allowing Pakistan to secure four crucial points from their victories against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

The Asian powerhouse will soon journey to Ahmedabad to face their arch-rivals, India, on Saturday, October 14, at the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium.

Pakistan sets a new record for the most significant successful run-chase in ODI World Cup history

Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama’s impressive centuries led Sri Lanka to a formidable total of 344/9 after Dasun Shanaka chose to bat first in the 2023 ODI World Cup match. Hasan Ali was Pakistan’s standout bowler, taking four wickets for 71 runs in his ten overs.

Pakistan’s chase didn’t begin well as they lost their dependable batsmen, Imam-Ul-Haq and Babar Azam, within the first eight overs. However, Abdullah Shafique, who replaced the out-of-form Fakhar Zaman, formed a remarkable 176-run partnership in 156 balls, putting Pakistan in a strong position.

Shafique was eventually dismissed after scoring a brilliant century, but Rizwan’s unbeaten 131 off 121 balls ensured Pakistan’s victory with 10 balls to spare. This achievement marked the highest successful run-chase in ODI World Cup history.
