ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma Playfully Mimics Shreyas Iyer’s Century Celebration In The 2023 World Cup Semi-Final

Rohit Sharma humorously mimicked Shreyas Iyer’s celebration after Iyer scored a century on November 15 in the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Iyer’s remarkable innings occurred under high pressure at his home ground, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. The top-order of the team performed exceptionally well, creating a strong foundation for the hosts.

Shreyas Iyer joined the game in the 23rd over after Shubman Gill left the field due to cramps. Maintaining his excellent form from the previous game, Iyer, who scored a century, built a strong 163-run partnership with Virat Kohli.

Serving as the more aggressive player, Iyer hit the bowlers all over the field, securing his fifth ODI century. In the dressing room, Rohit Sharma amused everyone with a humorous imitation of Shreyas Iyer’s century celebration once he reached the milestone.

Shreyas Iyer deserves much praise for his batting performance: Virat Kohli

India scored an impressive total of 397/4 in 50 overs through a combined batting effort. During the mid-innings break, Virat Kohli shared his thoughts on the innings, stating:

“In a big game, anything over 330-340, you’re happy with. A lot of credit goes to Shreyas Iyer for the way he batted.”

”Gill and Rohit did well to lay the platform, even KL with the flurry in the end. The job is only half done though. We still have plenty to do in the second innings.”

On his knock, Kohli added:

“The most important thing for me is to make my team win. Whatever needs to be done to do that, I’ll do it.”

”I have to play a role and dig deep so the other batters can play their role around me. That’s the only key to consistency, playing for your team at all times.”
