Team India batter Shubman Gill hit the ground running ahead of the highly anticipated clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday, October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He landed in Ahmedabad on Thursday and kicked off his practice in the nets for the first time after being diagnosed with dengue a few days back.

Shubman Gill missed India’s first two matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He was down with dengue fever and was also admitted to a hospital in Chennai due to a low platelet count. He did not fly with the Indian team to Delhi for the Afghanistan game as he was advised against taking a flight. However, the youngster seems to be recovering well. He had an extended net session in Ahmedabad on Thursday, ahead of the India-Pakistan clash.

Shubman Gill resuming net practice is a positive sign for Team India. However, it is unclear whether the right-handed batter will play the upcoming match against Pakistan. The team management in consultation with the BCCI medical team is likely to make a final decision soon. Ishan Kishan opened the innings for India in Shubman Gill’s absence.

Shubman Gill’s emphatic run in ODIs this year

Team India batter Shubman Gill has been in terrific form this year in One-Day Internationals. He is the leading run-scorer in the format in 2023. He has scored 1230 runs at an average of 72.35, and a strike rate of 105.03. His run tally includes five centuries and as many fifties this year. He slammed a double century against New Zealand in January at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He scored 208 from 149 balls, smashing 19 fours and 9 sixes in the innings. The opener was also the leading run-scorer in the Asia Cup last month. He played a crucial role in India’s title-winning campaign.
