Former cricketers Waqar Younis and Dale Steyn along with other experts made their predictions for the top-wicket taker in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The marquee tournament is all set to begin on Thursday, October 5 with the defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

In a video shared by Starsports, several former cricketers including Waqar Younis, Irfan Pathan, and Dale Steyn predicted the leading wicket-taker for the upcoming tournament. Former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis expressed that it is a tough choice to decide between Jasprit Bumran and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

“Can’t pick one. Both are outstanding bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Afridi, I would say are going to be the key in the first ten overs,” said Waqar Younis.

“I think Trent Boult is going to be the leading wicket-taker,” answered Dale Steyn.

Former India spinner Kuldeep Yadav picked Jasprit Bumrah. He said, “Top-wicket taker will depend on who plays all the games. But, I think Jasprit Bumrah can be the top wicket-taker.”

The upcoming event will be Shaheen Afridi and Jasprit Bumrah’s second ODI World Cup. They made their ODI World Cup debut in the 2019 edition in England. Shaheen has taken 16 wickets in 5 World Cup matches, while Bumrah has 18 wickets in nine games. Meanwhile, this will be Trent Boult’s third ODI World Cup. He has 39 wickets in nineteen matches.

Got to go with somebody whose bowling spin: Experts predict Kuldeep Yadav to be the leading wicket-taker

Former India cricketers Mithali Raj, Sanjay Manjrekar, Vinay Kumar and Irfan Pathan predicted Kuldeep Yadav to emerge as the leading wicket-taker in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, as the Indian conditions assist spinners. Kuldeep Yadav has picked six wickets in ODI World Cups so far.

“My money would be on Kuldeep,” said Mithali Raj.

“Got to go with somebody whose bowling spin, why don’t I go with Kuldeep Yadav,” answered Sanjay Manjrekar.
