ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH] Australian Fielders Missed Several Catches In The Match Against South Africa

Australian fielders were observed dropping opportunities in Match 10 of the ODI World Cup 2023. Australia and South Africa clashed in Match 10 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday, October 12 in Lucknow.

After winning the toss, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, chose to field first, but this decision didn’t go as planned as South Africa reached 311/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Quinton de Kock’s exceptional performance included his second consecutive century in the tournament.

In addition to the impressive batting, the talk of the town during the first innings was the multiple dropped catches by the Australian team. The most notable instance was when fast bowler Mitchell Starc missed a chance to catch David Miller at deep square leg.

This incident occurred during the second ball of the 49th over when Miller played a slower ball from Pat Cummins, directing it towards Starc. The fast bowler did well to reach the ball and initially caught it with both hands. However, as his elbow made contact with the ground, the ball slipped out of his grasp.

In the same over, Marco Jansen lofted a shot against Cummins, but it didn’t have enough power, and the ball descended within the 30-yard circle, where Marcus Stoinis was positioned.

Unfortunately, on this occasion as well, Australia displayed their shaky fielding as the all-rounder failed to hold onto the catch, adding to his side’s frustration. Throughout the game, there were numerous opportunities that the Australian fielders couldn’t capitalize on.

Mitchell Marsh failed to catch Virat Kohli in Chennai

In their opening match against India in Chennai, it’s worth noting that Mitchell Marsh had an early chance to dismiss Virat Kohli. However, this missed opportunity proved to be costly, as the star batsman went on to win the game for his team with a superb innings of 85 runs from 116 balls, featuring six fours.

Additionally, Glenn Maxwell emerged as the standout bowler for Australia, securing figures of 2/34 in ten overs, while Mitchell Starc also contributed with 2/53 in nine overs. The team, led by Pat Cummins, will be eager to secure their first victory of the tournament by successfully chasing down the target of 312 runs.
