David Warner, the Australian opening batsman, switched to batting right-handed during practice before the 2023 World Cup match against Pakistan at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 20.
In a video posted on cricketcomau’s Instagram, there’s footage of Warner confidently playing right-handed shots against spinners during the practice session before the match, showing that the 36-year-old handled the switch in batting style with ease.
This preparation is unexpected given that the Chinnaswamy Stadium is known for being a favorable ground for batting. Moreover, Pakistan’s spinners, Shadab Khan (leg-spin) and Mohammad Nawaz (off-spin), have not been effective with the ball in the tournament up to this point.

Warner previously attempted right-handed batting in a bilateral series against India but didn’t perform well and was dismissed by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
This video has emerged as Warner has had a rough start in the first three matches of the ongoing World Cup, scoring 41, 13, and 11 against India, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, respectively.
Australia had a tough start with losses in their first two matches but managed to get back on track with a five-wicket win against Sri Lanka. However, David Warner’s struggle for form is noticeable, despite having scored three consecutive half-centuries in the recent ODI series against India.
“I always want to score a lot of runs”- David Warner
David Warner is determined to perform well with the bat in the upcoming World Cup matches, especially after his recent struggles in the tournament. He recently mentioned:
“I have just played 150 ODI games. From my perspective after seeing 150 games, I think I have not played much cricket. For me, it is how to stay fit and hungry for the win. I am always hungry to score as many runs as possible.”
Warner, who is probably participating in his final ODI World Cup, has scored 6462 runs in 153 ODIs at an average of 44.56, which includes 20 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
