ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH] Fog Interrupts IND vs NZ 2023 World Cup Match In Dharamshala

In a surprising turn of events, an unexpected interruption occurred during the 2023 World Cup match between India and New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.

On a chilly Sunday, October 22, the game was temporarily halted by thick fog, creating an unprecedented situation in the cricketing world.

The incident unfolded during the 16th over of India’s run chase. At that point, the home team had reached a score of 100/2 after 15.4 overs, with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer at the crease.

The challenging visibility conditions prompted the players to engage in a discussion with the on-field umpires, ultimately leading to a decision to walk off the field temporarily.

After a 15-20 minute delay, the fog gradually began to dissipate, allowing Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to resume their run chase against New Zealand. The weather conditions in Dharamshala played a crucial role in this unexpected interruption.

Situated at an elevation of 1457 meters above sea level, this stadium nestled in the Himalayan foothills offers a stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains, making it one of the most picturesque cricket venues in the country.

This World Cup match was not the first time weather had an impact on proceedings at this stadium. In a previous encounter, a match was shortened to 43 overs per side due to rain. On that occasion, the Netherlands emerged victorious against South Africa by a margin of 38 runs.

As of the latest update, India had reached a score of 121/2 after 20 overs in their chase. In the first innings, New Zealand, after being put in to bat, managed to post a total of 273 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell played a pivotal role, notching up an impressive 130 runs off 127 balls, featuring five sixes and nine boundaries.

Rachin Ravindra was another standout performer with 75 runs off 87 deliveries, which included a maximum and six fours. Their partnership of 159 runs for the third wicket helped rescue the Kiwi innings after they were at a precarious 19/2.

In response, Mohammed Shami was the star with the ball for India, claiming five wickets for 54 runs. Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj each managed to grab one wicket apiece.

This interruption due to fog added an unexpected twist to what promises to be a memorable World Cup encounter between India and New Zealand.
