Veteran England batter Joe Root brought out his trademark reverse scoop off Trent Boult during the opening match of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 against New Zealand on Thursday, November 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His audacious shot was one of the highlights of England’s batting performance.
Joe Root walked out to bat at Number 3 for England after the dismissal of Dawid Malan. They had got off to a decent start with 40 runs in around eight overs. Root was slightly cautious with the first few deliveries trying to get his eye in. However, in the twelfth over, he unleashed an extraordinary shot off Trent Boult.
The New Zealand pacer bowled a full delivery just outside the off stump. Joe Root got into the perfect position and middle the reverse-scooped it over the wicket-keeper. The ball sailed over the boundary ropes for a six. The veteran batter has pulled off the reverse scoop in the past as well a few times.
