During the ICC World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between India and Australia, a brief interruption occurred when a pitch invader infiltrated security measures, temporarily halting the match.
In the 14th over, a fan successfully evaded the security cordon, entering the field wearing a t-shirt bearing the message “Stop bombing Palestine.” Notably, the fan also carried a Palestine flag, and even his face mask featured the flag’s emblem.

On reaching the pitch, the invader embraced Virat Kohli, who was at the crease alongside KL Rahul after India had lost three quick wickets. The early phase of India’s innings posed challenges, with Captain Rohit Sharma contributing a quick 47, but Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer fell for mere 4-run scores each.
Australia, having won the toss, opted to bowl first on the sluggish Motera pitch. The opening partnership of Rohit and Gill reached 30 runs before Mitchell Starc dismissed Gill in the 5th over. Captain Rohit, aiming to accelerate the scoring, departed to Glenn Maxwell without reaching a half-century, and Iyer followed suit as Cummins struck in his second over.
Both teams fielded unchanged lineups for the final showdown. India, seeking their third ODI World Cup title and the first in 12 years, faced the challenge, while Australia aimed to secure their sixth trophy with a victory in the summit clash.
