India won their fourth match in the 2023 ODI World Cup. They beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. India bowled well, limiting Bangladesh to 256/8, and then successfully chased the target.
After the game, Rohit was happily seen sharing a heartfelt moment with Kohli and Rahul. The ICC posted a video of this with the following message:
“Welcoming the boys who did it 💪.”
Kohli was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten inning of 103 runs from 97 balls. This exceptional performance included six fours and four sixes, with his final six bringing up his century and also securing the victory.
The 34-year-old partnered with KL Rahul (34* off 34) to create an unbroken 83-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
In the earlier part of the match, skipper Rohit Sharma (48 off 40) and Shubman Gill (53 off 55) provided a strong start for India in their chase of 257, amassing 88 runs for the first wicket.
Rohit managed to hit seven fours and two sixes before losing his wicket, while Gill showcased his skills with five fours and two sixes during his attractive innings.
“At the beginning, we didn’t have a good start, but the team managed to recover”- Rohit Sharma
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Bangladesh had a positive start with their opening pair, Litton Das scoring 66 off 82 balls and Tanzid Hasan contributing 51 off 43 balls, forming a 93-run partnership for the first wicket.
However, thanks to three wickets each from Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, India managed to limit Bangladesh to a total of fewer than 260 runs. During the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma recognized the strong comeback by the bowlers.
“It was a good win, something we were looking forward to. We didn’t start well, but the guys pulled it back in the middle-overs and at the back-end.”
”Our fielding has been superb in all these matches, it’s something that’s in your control, you can put in your best effort. The bowlers were smart to understand what lengths to bowl,” he said.
In the 2023 World Cup, India’s upcoming game is against New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 22. Similar to India, New Zealand is undefeated in the competition, having secured victories in all four of their matches.
