ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH] Rohit Sharma Reveals The Conversation With The Umpire

In a sensational display of cricketing prowess, Rohit Sharma blazed a trail of glory during India’s clash with arch-rivals Pakistan at the 2023 World Cup. The Narendra Modi Stadium witnessed an electric atmosphere with over 100,000 fervent fans as Rohit Sharma played a match-winning innings.

His explosive batting onslaught, characterized by a breathtaking 36-ball half-century, set the stage for India’s resounding seven-wicket victory. Scoring 86 runs from just 63 balls, he notched up six boundaries and an equal number of colossal sixes, effectively solidifying India’s grip on the game.

This triumph marked India’s eighth consecutive win over Pakistan in World Cup encounters, continuing a remarkable streak that commenced in 1992. India’s bowlers, spearheaded by the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, made their presence felt earlier in the game.

Bumrah, with a spell of 2-19 in seven overs, and Yadav, securing 2-35 across his ten overs, orchestrated Pakistan’s unexpected collapse from a formidable 155-2 after 29.3 overs to being bowled out for 191 in 42.5 overs. What’s more, five of India’s six bowlers contributed with two wickets each, underscoring the team’s exceptional bowling performance.

While India’s bowlers shared the limelight, Rohit Sharma’s bat stole the show. With finesse, he executed a wide array of shots, showcasing moments like an exquisite pull shot behind square off Shaheen Shah Afridi and a mighty square-driven six off Haris Rauf.

His batting prowess was nothing short of awe-inspiring, leading to a rather unconventional exchange between the Indian captain and on-field umpire Marais Erasmus.

During the live broadcast, Rohit humorously flexed his biceps at Erasmus, eliciting a chuckle from the umpire. After India’s victory, Hardik Pandya inquired about this exchange, and Rohit humorously disclosed the details of their conversation.

He was asking me how am I hitting so many big sixes. Is there something in my bat! I replied there’s nothing in the bat, it’s just power (pointing towards biceps),” Rohit quipped, leading to laughter from both him and Hardik.
