Shreyas Iyer hit the longest six of the 2023 World Cup, measuring 106 meters, during the Sri Lanka match in Mumbai on November 2. This impressive hit came after some concerns about his form and place in the team, and it followed strong performances by Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.
Shreyas Iyer, who is 28 years old, hit his first six off Kasun Rajitha, and then he hit another significant shot against Dushan Hemantha.
For his third six, he struck a delivery from Rajitha that was outside the off-stump and in the slot, sending it flying over the long-on region. This third six was measured as the longest hit of the tournament so far.

After recovering from a back injury he had earlier this year, Shreyas Iyer managed to score a remarkable century in the second ODI against Australia just before the World Cup. Unfortunately, his performance in the World Cup has not been as impressive, with only one half-century in six matches leading up to the Sri Lanka game.
Beyond just the low scores, it was the way he was getting out to short-pitched deliveries that was a worry for Team India as they approached the crucial phase of the tournament. Iyer proved himself with a solid half-century in only 36 balls, showing that the team’s confidence in him was well-placed and making his critics stop talking, at least for now.
India is on track to achieve a very high score against Sri Lanka
India is set to achieve a high score against Sri Lanka and continue their undefeated run in the 2023 World Cup. Despite their captain Rohit Sharma getting out early, they are looking strong. Although they had won all six of their previous matches in the tournament, the Indian team faced an early setback as their captain and top performer, Rohit Sharma, was dismissed off just the second delivery.
Despite creating opportunities against Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, the Sri Lankan bowlers couldn’t take advantage of them. Gill and Kohli formed a strong partnership, scoring 189 runs off 178 balls for the second wicket.
Unfortunately, neither of them reached a century, with Gill getting out for 92 and Kohli for 88. Sri Lanka managed to make a comeback by taking the wickets of KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, but Shreyas Iyer remained steady, helping India go beyond the 300-run mark.
With just four overs left, India is in a good position to make a strong finish at 309 for the loss of 5 wickets in 46 overs. Shreyas Iyer is batting confidently at 62, and Ravindra Jadeja is at 12. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka has been the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 61 runs in his nine overs.
India is aiming to win their sixth consecutive ODI against Sri Lanka and be the first team to secure a spot in the World Cup semi-finals.
