Indian team broke 20-year jinx of not winning an ICC match against New Zealand. Thanks to a superb bowling effort by Mohammed Shami, Bumrah, and other bowlers, they bowled Kiwis out for 273 in 50 overs. In reply, Rohit Sharma and Gill provided a flying start putting on 71 runs laying a strong foundation.

Virat Kohli scored well complied 95 along with Ravindra Jadeja not out 39 helped India recover from a tough situation and win the match by 4 wickets with 2 overs. Mohammed Shami was named the player of the match award for his 5 for 54 in 10 overs.
Shami was named as a replacement for Shardul Thakur. He got rid of Will Young with his first ball. With Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell’s partnership going strong, Shami dismissed Ravindra to bring back India into the game. He then produced lovely yorkers to dismiss Mitchell Santer, Matt Henry, and Centurion Mitchell. It was a superb bowling effort by Shami ending with figures of 5 for 54 helping Team India bowl them out for 273.
The Indian team will miss the services of all-rounder Hardik Pandya who injured his ankle on his follow through while fielding against Bangladesh after bowling 3 deliveries. He would miss the matches against England at Lucknow, then against Sri Lanka on 2nd November. On the other hand, England is struggling with only 1 win out of 4 matches. They will face Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru today before facing Team India on Sunday.
Hardik Pandya is still yet to recover from an ankle injury as he is at NCA, Bengaluru. He is targeting to be fit for the business end of the tournament.
Team India’s performance in World Cup 2023
The Indian Team has been on a roll right from the word go. They began the tournament with a comprehensive 6 wicket over Australia at Chennai. Thanks to a superb 131-run knock by Rohit Sharma along with impressive knocks by Ishan Kishan and a half-century by Kohli, the Indian team won the match against Afghanistan by 7 wickets at New Delhi.
Indian team continued their dominating performance against arch-rivals Pakistan at Ahmedabad with a 7-wicket win. Men in Blue showed their class with an impressive 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in Pune. They were given a tough challenge by New Zealand but won the match by 4 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
