ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: “We Stand With You”- PM Narendra Modi Sends A Letter To The Indian Cricket Team Following Their Loss In The World Cup Final

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad and shared a message with the Indian cricket team after their defeat to Australia in the final.

The Indian cricket team won people’s hearts, but not the Cricket World Cup 2023. They faced Australia in the final, and although many hoped for a victory, Australia played really well and won by six wickets.

Travis Head, the first batsman in the match, scored a brilliant 137 runs, helping Australia secure their sixth World Cup title with a convincing win over India in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Australia had a challenging task of chasing 241 for victory in the final. Initially, they faced difficulties at 47-3. However, left-handed batsman Travis Head secured his second century of the tournament, guiding the team to victory with seven overs to spare.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad and conveyed a message to the Indian cricket team following their defeat.

“Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. We stand with you today and always.”

Travis Head played really well, scoring a lot of runs in 120 balls, and with his teammate Marnus Labuschagne, who stayed unbeaten at 58, they ended India’s streak of not losing in 10 matches.

Head got out, but Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs, and the Australian team celebrated a lot.

India’s hope of winning a major trophy since their 2013 Champions Trophy victory faded away once Travis Head and Labuschagne started performing well.

Head’s century in the World Cup final was the seventh instance of a player achieving this feat, and it was the third time an Australian accomplished it, following Ricky Ponting (140 not out against India in 2003) and Adam Gilchrist (149 against Sri Lanka in 2007).

Australia’s bowlers played a crucial role in the team’s comeback, securing nine consecutive wins after two initial losses. Mitchell Starc (3-55) and Pat Cummins (2-34) were instrumental in bowling out India for 240.

India fought back as Mohammed Shami, along with Jasprit Bumrah, shared the new ball. Shami made an impact on his second delivery, dismissing David Warner, who scored seven, caught behind.

Bumrah’s rapid double success lifted the spirits, dismissing Mitchell Marsh for 15 caught behind and Steve Smith lbw for four.

Despite Captain Rohit Sharma frequently changing bowlers to find a breakthrough, Head, alongside Labuschagne, stood strong against the Indian attack.

Travis Head almost missed the World Cup due to a hand injury but stayed in the team. He played a big role, scoring a century against New Zealand and 62 in the semi-final.

Australia chose to bowl first, and their disciplined bowling and good fielding paid off. Despite Rohit’s 47, the pitch favored bowlers. Head caught Rohit, and Cummins bowled out Kohli, the top scorer in the tournament.

Head, who troubled India before in the World Test Championship, scored a century in 95 balls, getting cheers from his teammates in the dressing room.
