ICC ODI Team Of The Year 2023: Rohit Sharma Named Captain, 6 Indians Included In The Team

The International Cricket Council announced the ODI team of the year for 2023. Rohit Sharma has been named as the captain leading India to the finals World Cup. He led from the bat with superb performances opening the batting in ODI cricket during 2023, especially during the World Cup 2023.

His opening partnership Shubman Gill also has been included with great performances in 2023. He finished as the leading run scorer with 1584 runs from 29 matches (29 innings) including 5 centuries and 9 half-centuries including the best score of 208 against New Zealand.

The dashing left-handed opener Travis Head played a key role in helping Australia win the World Cup for the sixth time. He did not play the first few matches due to an injury but showed his class with a superb century against New Zealand. During the finals against India, Head scored a match-winning century and kept his country’s flag high.

Virat Kohli also had a great tournament in ODI format last year. He finished as the 2nd leading run-getter in 2023 with 1377 runs from 27 matches (24 innings) with 6 centuries and 8 half-centuries including the best score of 166 not out.

Daryl Mitchell showed his class with some lovely performances last year in the ODI format. He scored 1204 runs from 26 matches (25 innings) including 5 centuries and 3 half-centuries with the best score of 134 in the semi-finals of WC 2023 against India.

South African wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klassen proved his worth with some lovely performances. He scored 927 runs from 24 matches (22 innings) including 3 centuries and 2 half-centuries. He registered the best score of 174 against Australia at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

Marco Jansen contributed with both bat and ball for South Africa in ODI cricket. His batting abilities during the 2023 World Cup were brilliant in some matches but could not sustain his performances.

The bowling department includes Australia’s leg spinner Adam Zampa. Zampa finished with 38 wickets from 20 matches (20 innings) at an economy rate of 5.78 runs per over. After disappointing first two matches against India and South Africa in WC 2023, he showed his abilities and helped Australia pick wickets in middle overs. He registered best figures of 4 for 8 against Netherlands.

Mohammed Siraj proved his worth with some lovely bowling spells. He ended 2023 with 44 wickets from 25 matches (24 innings) at an economy of 5.21 runs per over including best figures of 6 for 21 in the finals of Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka.

Kuldeep Yadav also showed his skills finishing as the leading wicket taker in 2023. He grabbed 49 wickets from 30 matches (29 innings) with 2 four-wicket hauls and 1 five-wicket haul including best figures of 5 for 25 against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023.

Mohammed Shami made the bowl talk with some lovely performances in ODIs last year. He took 43 wickets from 19 matches (19 innings) with four times five-wicket hauls and once four-wicket haul. He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 WC with 24 wickets from 7 matches (7 innings) including best figures of 7 for 57 in the semi-finals against NZ in Mumbai.
