Ticket sales for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 officially commenced on Friday, August 25. However, there were difficulties for cricket enthusiasts attempting to secure tickets for the event. The high demand led to the official website and app becoming overwhelmed and unresponsive for approximately 35-40 minutes.

The 2023 ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India from October 5 to November 19. Yet, the lead-up to the tournament has been marked by challenges. Initially, the schedule announcement was delayed due to venue-related issues. This resulted in a revised schedule being introduced, involving the rescheduling of nine matches.

The first day of ticket sales, focused on non-India games and warm-up matches, began at 8:00 pm local time on Friday. However, a report from PTI highlighted frustrated fans expressing dissatisfaction with the application crashing due to the overwhelming rush for tickets.

‘Bookmyshow’ has been designated as the official ticketing partner for the 2023 World Cup. Nilesh G, one of the fans attempting to purchase a ticket through the app, turned to X to share his firsthand experience.

A disappointing fan tweeted: “Ticket sale for matches other than India started at 8PM. It’s 8:08 PM now – BookMyShow app is crashed. Cricket in India. Wondering what will happen when tickets for India’s game will go up on sale”

In a previous announcement, the ICC clarified that they opted for a gradual ticket release strategy in order to “handle the anticipated ticket demand and provide a greater number of fans with optimal opportunities to witness the finest players on the global stage.
