When the COVID-19 pandemic began a few months back, no one was sure when cricket would restart. The long wait of four and half months came to an end when the England and West Indies Test series began earlier in July. Now after the conclusion of the series, we’ve got the ODI series between England and Ireland which starts on July 30 at Southampton in a biosecure environment.
Just ahead of the ODI series, ICC has released the latest ODI rankings. India duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma lies on top of the batting rankings. All thanks to their consistent performance over the years for India. Virat is at No.1 with 871 points whereas Rohit is placed second with 855 points. Babar Azam has accumulated the third place with 829 points.
Virat, Bumrah dominated ICC ODI Rankings
In the bowling rankings, New Zealand’s Trent Boult tops the bowler’s chart with 722 points. Next up is India’s Jasprit Bumrah with just three points less of Boult at 719 points as he’s been a regular starter for India. Afghanistan’s Mujeeb ur Rahman sits in the third spot at 701 points due to consistent show in the power plays.
Talking about the all-rounder rankings, Former Afghanistan captain Mohammed Nabi has taken hold of the first place with 301 points. England’s Ben Stokes follows him at 293 points, who is also the number one all-rounder in test cricket and has recently entered the top 10 test batting rankings as well.
Pakistan’s Imad Wasim occupies the third spot, who stands at 278 points despite being in and out of the side on many occasions. New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme and England’s Chris Woakes accumulate the 4th and 5th position respectively.
Though it is likely that we might see the rankings tinker with cricket restarting in few days time. It’s just left to see how each players performance affects the rankings in the upcoming days to come.
