The ICC has now decided to bring in a change in the implementation of the super over in its official knockout tournaments. From now on, the super over will take place till one team surpasses the score of the other.
However, this rule holds good only during the knockout stages of the ICC tournaments. In the group stages, only one super over will take place in place of a tie. If in case, the super over is tied, then the points will be split between the teams.
“In Semi-finals and Finals, there is one change to the Super Over regulation in keeping with the basic principle of scoring more runs than the opponent to win, the Super Over will be repeated until one team has more runs than the other,” the ICC stated in a release on Monday”, read a press release from the ICC.
