A lot has been spoken over the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 scheduled to take place in Australia later this year. A dilemma has been persisting with the International Cricket Council (ICC) delaying the decision. But a recent report suggests that the apex body has finally made their mind to postpone the global event.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has put the entire cricketing schedule in a haste. Speculations continue to rife on the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. But the officials are likely to officially postpone the league when they meet later this week on Friday according to dailytelegraph.com.au.

ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to not take place this year

The report also adds Australia may potentially travel to UK for a limited-over series against England mid-September. Meanwhile, the meeting will not decide where ICC will move the tournament, but Australia are keen to host in 2021. With India scheduled to host in 2021, it is unlikely to happen.

This will open up a window for IPL 2020 which is likely to move out of India due to a spike in the number of the positive cases. UAE and Sri Lanka are front-runners to host the 13th edition of the tournament. However, New Zealand also have thrown their hat in the ring.

IPL can be played in September-October later this year.

Meanwhile, BCCI officials are fed-up with ICC delaying the decision. They are drawing up a tentative window for the IPL 2020, irrespective of ICC’s decision on the T20 World Cup. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal slammed ICC for playing on the backfoot.

“The year started on a horrible note and there’s been no relief on any front. But as time goes by, we need to take things head-on and ensure that we remain prepared for any eventuality. Cricket is no different. It is time for the BCCI to start planning for the year ahead,” Dhumal told Times of India.
