The ICC T20 World Cup starts with the qualifiers from October 17 while the Indian team plays their first game against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai. The build-up to the mega event has been huge with most teams making last-minute changes to their squads. Pakistan and Sri Lanka are among the teams to have added players for the T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Indian team has been announced and looks a settled unit.
In this article, we will take a look at 5 Indian players to watch out for in the tournament.
5 Players To Watch Out For In T20 World Cup 2021
Virat Kohli
Kohli has already announced of stepping down as India’s T20 skipper after the World Cup. This is what makes the event all the more important for the Indian skipper. He is yet to win a World Cup title as skipper and this is very last chance to change that record. He has the team and the players around him to materialise his dream. Kohli himself has been in good form with the bat as well.
He has further confirmed that he will open the batting along with Rohit Sharma. This gives him ample time to score runs and help India set defendable targets.
Rohit Sharma
Rohit is likely to take over the reins as India’s T20I skipper after Kohli. One of the senior players in the team, the onus will be on him as well to score runs for his team. He already had a good time with the bat in the 2019 World Cup and would like to replicate his form in this ICC championship event.
He ended the IPL 2021 season with 381 runs from 13 games. The Indian fans would love at least 500 runs from him in the tournament which can become decisive in India’s search for the title.
Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja can be entrusted with the role of a finisher in the T20 World Cup. His recent form in the IPL gives the team all the more belief to trust him to perform in that role. His form with the ball and on the field is always an asset for the team.
Jadeja’s improvement as a player has been a great story and certainly, in the T20 format, he is often included as the first pick in the playing XI. His contribution and form will be massive for the Indian team. So far in this IPL season, he has scored 227 runs and picked up 11 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah will lead India’s pace attack in the mega event. He ended the IPL 2021 season with 21 wickets to his name. A similar season in the ICC T20 World Cup would certainly boost India’s chances to win the title.
Bumrah has been the go-to bowler for Kohli at the international level and Rohit at the IPL level. He has grown into a much matured bowler in the last few years and a difficult proposition for batsmen.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvi in recent times has been a specialist white-ball bowler for India. However, a string of injuries in recent times has forced him to stay out of the game for some time. He did not have the best of IPL seasons with Sunrisers taking just six wickets from 11 games. He defended 13 off the final over against RCB with AB De Villiers at the crease which remains one of his notable performances this season.
