Tim Southee will have a key role to play as New Zealand face Australia in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup final on Sunday in Dubai. Both teams are eyeing their first T20 World Cup title. Southee has been in brilliant form for the Kiwis picking up eight wickets at 17.25. He has also bowled at an economy of under 6 throughout the tournament so far.

Speaking to Perth Now, an Australian website Tim Southee said that Australia’s batting line-up is similar to that of England in terms of their intent of scoring runs. They bat without fear and challenge the opposition bowlers.

“I don’t think there’s any fear, we’ve played against some quality oppositions throughout the tournament. They’re very similar to the England line-up where they’ve got dangerous batters throughout. But as a bowler, you want to challenge yourself against the best and Australia have got plenty of quality players” said Southee.

Further adding on Southee said that New Zealand beating the Aussies in their last bi-lateral T20I series will give them confidence.

“I guess Australia have been a very strong side for a long time. We haven’t played them in a final since 2015 but – I know they weren’t at full strength – we beat them in a T20 series not so long ago. We know they’re a dangerous side but it’s a final, anything can happen” Southee said.

The Kiwi pacer also spoke about the conditions in the UAE and felt that they adjusted to the conditions pretty well as a team.

Assessed Conditions Pretty Well: Tim Southee

“We’ve assessed the conditions reasonably well. We’ve had to chop and change between venues, day games and night games. But as a whole, we’ve all been pretty consistent and quick in adapting. We’ve done that throughout the tournament. One of the strengths of the side is just to stay level in everything we do. But we’ve definitely been a lot more consistent in world events, especially.”

New Zealand last played Australia in an ICC World Cup final in the 2015 World Cup with the Aussies clinching the game and the World Cup title.
