The Pakistan Cricket Board have roped in former cricketers Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander as batting and bowling coach respectively for the upcoming T20 World Cup. New PCB Chief Ramiz Raja confirmed their appointment in a press conference. The global T20 tournament kicks off in the UAE from October 17 and the final will be played on November 14.
Hayden and Philander will be taking over from the pair of Misbah ul Haq and Waqar Younis, who resigned from their posts one month ahead of the tournament. The senior duo announced of them stepping down hours after the Pakistan squad for the event was announced.
“The Australian can bring some aggression into the team. He has experience of World Cups and was a world-class player himself. Having an Australian in the dressing room will be of great benefit for us” Ramiz Raja said on Matthew Hayden.
“I know Vernon, and he has some phenomenal performances against leading teams, including Australia. I hope the two will help Pakistan cricket in performing at their best during the T20 World Cup,” said Raja, PCB chairman.
