ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Sri Lanka Announce Final 15-Member Squad, Makes 3 Changes

Sri Lanka have made three changes as they have named their final 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup to be played later this year in the UAE. 10th October was the cut-off date for the different teams to announce their final squads and the Lankan side too have named theirs. Lahiru Kumara, Pathum Nissanka, Akila Dananjaya and Binura Fernando have been added into the squad. The side will be led by Dasun Shanaka.

Sri Lanka had initially named 20 players in their probable squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 after adding 5 more names a few days ago. Now the whole squad has been trimmed to 15 with Dasun Shanaka being named captain and Dhananjaya de Silva appointed as the vice-captain. Kamindu Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep, Praveen Jayawickrama and Lahiru Madusanka have been left out from the squad.

The 2014 champions will have to play the qualifiers this time around with other nations. They recently won the T20I series against India. SL have been placed in group A alongside Ireland, Namibia, and the Netherlands. They play their first qualifier against Namibia on October 18 in Abu Dhabi. Then the Lankans play Ireland on October 20, also in Abu Dhabi, and last they will face the Netherlands on October 22 in Sharjah.

The experienced duo of Kusal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal were also named in the final squad along with the young Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was picked as the batters. Dhananjaya de Silva was appointed as the vice-captain.
