ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Final: Virat Kohli’s Knock Receives Mixed Reaction From Fans

Former India captain Virat Kohli demonstrated why he is called the ‘King of Cricket’ by rescuing India from a tough spot against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Struggling with just 75 runs in seven games during this tournament, Kohli rose to the challenge, starting his innings with three fours off Marco Jansen in the first over. After India lost three quick wickets, Kohli took on the role of an anchor.

He formed a crucial 72-run partnership with Axar Patel and notched up his first fifty of the T20 World Cup 2024. Kohli then accelerated in the death overs, but after hitting a six and a four off Jansen, he lost his wicket.

On the 5th ball of the 19th over, Kohli attempted another six off Jansen but was caught by Kagiso Rabada at the boundary.

Virat Kohli saved his exceptional form for the final T20 World Cup Match

Kohli started strong with three fours in the first over, but Keshav Maharaj struck back for South Africa by dismissing Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant in the second. This was followed by Suryakumar Yadav falling to Kagiso Rabada, leaving India three wickets down inside the powerplay.

Kohli and Axar Patel then stabilized the innings, guiding India through to the 10th over. Their partnership crossed 60 runs, and India reached 100 inside 14 overs. However, Axar was run out by a brilliant piece of fielding from Quinton de Kock, falling just three runs short of his half-century.

The partnership between Axar and Kohli added 72 runs in 54 balls for the fourth wicket. Kohli eventually reached his fifty in 48 balls and accelerated against Kagiso Rabada in the 18th over, hitting a six and a four.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first against South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
