The debutant Uganda announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies and USA starting from 2nd June onwards. Brian Musaka will lead the side in a historic T20 World appearance.
Simon Ssezai, Roger Musaka, Brian Musaka, Riazat Ali Shah, and Dinesh Nakrani are the two aggressive batters named in the squad along with Juma Miyaji who has represented Uganda in the 2022 Under 19 World Cup. Ronak Patel will look to play attacking cricket as an opening batter.
Alpesh Rajmani, Bilal Hassun, Henry Ssenyondo, and Frank Nsubuga will comprise of bowlers in the Uganda squad for this mega event. Dinesh could also bowl which could be handy for the team during the tournament.
This will be the first time Uganda will take part in any senior men’s World Cup tournament.
Uganda’s Schedule For ICC T20 World Cup 2024:
The debutant Uganda faces a tough challenge as they have been clubbed with Afghanistan, New Zealand, West Indies, and Papua New Guinea in Group C.
Uganda will begin their journey against Afghanistan at Providence Stadium, Guyana on 3rd June. After this, they would face Papua New Guinea on 5th June in Guyana. Their next match would be against hosts West Indies on 8th June at Guyana.
Their final match of the group would be against New Zealand on 17th June at Brian Lara Cricket Stadium, Trinidad. The task looks too big for Uganda to defeat the likes of West Indies, Afghanistan, and New Zealand. They can provide some fight against PNG and could beat them.
Uganda made it into the mega event for the first time as they qualified from the Africa qualifiers finishing 2nd behind Namibia in Africa qualifiers from 22nd-30th November 2023.
Uganda defeated Tanzania in their first match by 8 wickets. They suffered a six-wicket loss to table toppers Namibia. Uganda then stunned Zimbabwe by 5 wickets to stay in contention for the top-two finish. They thrashed Nigeria in their next match. Uganda outplayed Kenya with 33 runs victory.
They looked impressive in their last league match getting rid of Rwanda to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
